To be prepared for natural disasters and emergencies, it is important to have accurate records of the location of underground facilities. When disasters such as hurricanes or wildfires occur, it is critical to locate buried assets, but locating can be hindered by flooding, debris and other factors.
Electronic markers and locators have been in use for some time to ascertain utility locations. Now, with the availability of lower-priced and increased-accuracy GPS receivers, the two technologies can be integrated. This innovative approach allows utilities to implement a state-of-the-art GIS system to pinpoint their assets accurately and respond to an emergency rapidly and relatively inexpensively.
This workshop will include demonstrations of hardware and software that implements this technology.
